Experienced High School Japanese Teacher
I started my Japan journey in 1990 when I went to Japan to teach English. I ended up staying for eight years, getting my Masters degree from the University of Hawaii in Asian Studies, and becoming fluent in the language in the process. After returning to the States in 2001 I taught Japanese for two years at a public elementary school in South Carolina and have been teaching Japanese since 2003 at a private high school in Westchester. We say "hello" in Japanese and continue in that language for the full time. We also say "goodbye" in Japanese. My grades have improved tremendously since my understanding has improved.

Mr. C is an excellent Japanese tutor. For the past three years, I have struggled with foreign language classes at my high school. I have had an interest in Japanese culture for a while now, so I decided to start fresh with Japanese. Thus far, I have found his lessons to be satisfying, enjoyable, and rewarding. In contrast to the slow progress of my high school class, I have progressed very quickly with Mr. C's Japanese lessons. His lesson plans and teaching methods make the language easy to learn and inspire me to do my best without placing pressure on me. He is also well versed in Japanese culture, which allows him to add flavor to lessons with the occasional side note regarding Japanese customs and traditions. I would recommend Mr. C to anyone who has an interest in Japanese.

I have been working with Mr. Timothy for about two months and I've made a lot of progress. I have decided to take Japanese independently, in place of Spanish in school, and Mr. Timothy has agreed to be my teacher for the next two years to facilitate that. The lessons are always really active - he brings in media, other sources, and offers relevant Japanese culture points that go along with the lesson I'm studying. The books he suggested are well written and organized, and he clearly has experience figuring out the proper pace for the course. I am attempting to finish 3-4 academic years of Japanese in 2 years, and with Mr. Timothy's help, I definitely think this is possible. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is serious about learning Japanese.
